Remembered with Honour: The Great War Fallen of Hampstead St John Burial Ground Download ebook

Alfred John Lewis

Rank/ Unit - Service number: L/Cpl, Army Service Corps - MS/1929 | Died: 1915.02.23 | Age at death: 24 | Action: | Burial place / memorial, TNA reference: St Venant Communal Cemetery (French civilian plot) |

Son of Mrs. Ellen Lewis, of 9, New Buildings, Flask Walk, Hampstead. Found in the Parish magazine, but not commemorated on the Church Row War Memorial. There was a casualty clearing station at St Venant at this time; it is possible that the burial (in a civilian plot) predates the organisation of the military cemetery. [There may be a Lewis family connection from before the 1800s at least until 1962 (see graves XE025, H035/039, XF045, I 063/064, F053, O 086, J 058, H001). There is still a Michael Lewis on the old electoral roll and living in Hampstead today.]
