Born 1894 in Hampstead, one of seven children of Edward and Alice Shurety. Father was a general labourer, and worked finally for the borough council. Family lived for over 20 years at Wells Buildings, Hampstead High Street. Reginald was an old boy of HPS. In 1911 his first job was as shop porter. An older brother (Fred|) was a regular soldier, and Reg volunteered early. Commemorated on the War Memorial in Church Row.
